A Puerto Rican government official tells CBS News that it's absurd that this territory of Americans has no say on who becomes president.

The assumption is that Puerto Rico would be a blue state and that the Republican-controlled Senate wouldn't stand for that.

The US. Territory is still recovering from Hurricane Maria that decimated the island in 2017.

President Trump's handling of recovery efforts has been sharply criticized - most notably by San Juan's Mayor Carmen Cruz who recenly told CNN he continues to make a humitarian crisis even worse.

Earlier this week, several reports said Trump privately told Republican senators he is opposed to further disaster relief for Puerto Rico.

Cruz also said the president is "too stubborn to do what is right."

Trump is also considering diverting those funds to help pay for his Mexican border wall.
