Judge denies Ghislaine Maxwell's request to move to jail's general population

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- Jeffrey Epstein confidante Ghislaine Maxwell will not be moved from an isolated unit inside a Brooklyn jail to its general population, according to a report.

Manhattan Federal Judge Alison Nathan on Tuesday denied Maxwell’s request to be transferred to Metropolitan Detention Center’s general population, the Daily News reported. The Bureau of Prisons previously made the decision to hold Maxwell separate from the jail’s other female inmates.

“The Court credits BOP's duty to ensure the safety and security of the Defendant as justifying the measures BOP has adopted,” Nathan wrote, according to the outlet.

“The Defendant has provided the Court with no evidence, and no reason to believe, that the surveillance measures are motivated by improper purposes,” she added.

Maxwell in July pleaded not guilty to charges that she recruited young girls for Epstein to sexually abuse. Her trial is scheduled to take place on July 12 of next year.
