NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- A large guineafowl was taken away by NYPD Tuesday after it found its way into a Brooklyn gas station.

The turkey-sized bird was seen around 7:15 a.m. pecking into the BP station on Empire Boulevard and Rogers Avenue in Prospect Lefferts Gardens. After a BP customer, who lives in the area, notified the police, the bird was transfered from the 71st precinct to Animal Care Center of NYC.

Police joked that "this resident had to be relocated” in a tweet.

Katy Hansen, a spokeswoman for the Animal Care Center told the New York Post that the bird is in good hands after its run-in with the police.

“We named the guinea fowl Gilberto and quickly transferred him to our new hope partner Wild Bird Fund on the UWS!” Hansen said.

While guineafowls are not native to Brooklyn, in 2012 the feathered birds were common garden pets in the Hamptons to control insects.

It is not confirmed if Gilberto was a pet or just a lost guineafowl.
