NEW YORK (1010 WINS) – The NYPD is in mourning after Officer Brian Mulkeen was shot and killed during a struggle with a suspect in the Bronx on Sunday morning.
Mulkeen, 33, was on the force for nearly seven years and worked at the Bronx's 47th Precinct. His girlfriend is also an NYPD officer and works at the Bronx's 44th Precinct.
"He is the embodiment of bravery and a true New York hero," Gov. Cuomo said of Mulkeen, who is also survived by his mother, father and sister.
The NY Police & Fire Widows’ & Children’s Benefit Fund, also known as Answer the Call, is providing Mulkeen’s family with $25,000.
"We send our deepest condolences to Officer Brian Mulkeen's family and the entire NYPD Community." said Lauren Profeta, executive director of Answer the Call. "Answer the Call vows to honor Officer Mulkeen by helping those he loved the most - his family. His bravery, heroism, and service to our city will never be forgotten."
