NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin announced Friday that the IRS is moving the Tax Day deadline from April 15 to July 15 amid the coronavirus outbreak.

The change will give individuals and businesses three extra months to file their taxes with no interest or penalties.

“At President Donald Trump’s direction, we are moving Tax Day from April 15 to July 15. All taxpayers and businesses will have this additional time to file and make payments without interest or penalties,” Mnuchin tweeted.

In a follow-up tweet, Mnuchin urged taxpayers seeking tax refunds to file now.

"I encourage all taxpayers who may have tax refunds to file now to get your money," Mnuchin wrote.

Earlier this week, the Trump administration announced that it would delay payments, a move Mnuchin said would leave $300 billion in the economy during the coronavirus crisis.
