NEW YORK (1010 WINS) – Longtime “Jeopardy!” host Alex Trebek says he has survived pancreatic cancer for a month and aims to beat the disease and join other long-term survivors.
“I am now a 30-day cancer survivor, but I’m going to catch up,” he said Wednesday on "Good Morning America."
“My oncologist says I’m doing well, even though I don’t always feel it,” Trebek told anchor Robin Roberts, another cancer survivor.
Trebek said he's "fighting through it" but that the chemo for his state-four pancreatic cancer leaves him feeling very weak – physically and emotionally.
“What I’m not used to dealing with is the surges that come on suddenly of deep, deep sadness. And it brings tears to my eyes,” he said. “I’ve discovered in this whole episode that I’m a bit of a wuss.”
The 78-year-old says his numbers are looking better and that he will review his case with his doctors after another chemo treatment next week.
"Hopefully everything is going to turn out well and I’ll be back on the air with original programming come this September," Trebek said.
