JERSEY CITY, N.J. (1010 WINS) -- North Jersey’s water utility company lifted a “boil water” advisory for Jersey City and Hoboken residents on Thursday afternoon — two days after a water main broke between Kearny and Jersey City.
“As of Thursday, April 30 (at 4 p.m.), SUEZ has lifted the boil water advisory issued on April 28 for Jersey City and Hoboken residents,” SUEZ Water North Jersey posted on Twitter.
“It is no longer necessary for these customers to boil their water prior to consumption,” the utility company added.
Jersey City’s water service was fully restored as of Thursday morning, according to the company. It wasn’t immediately clear when Hoboken’s service would be fully restored.
Many residents in the two cities were left without water on Tuesday and Wednesday after a state contractor struck a water main on Route 7 between Kearny and Jersey City, SUEZ said. Officials advised residents who still had water service to boil it before using it.
On Wednesday evening, the City of Hoboken tweeted that a second water main break had been reported at 11th Street and Madison Street.
Taking to Twitter Thursday afternoon, Jersey City reassured residents that their water had been tested “in conjunction with (the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection)," adding that it was “safe for consumption.”
