Jet.com pulls plug on fresh grocery deliveries in NYC

Jet.com stops fresh grocery deliver in NYC

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- New Yorkers now have one less option for getting fresh groceries delivered to their homes: Walmart subsidiary Jet.com will no longer offer the service in the city after offering it for about one year.

Jet.com will also closed its fulfillment center in the Bronx and slash 200-300 jobs, Bloomberg reported

Jet.com -- which Walmart bought in 2016 for $3.3 billion -- will continue to see dry groceries and other merchandise.

"We learned a lot by testing Jet fresh grocery delivery in New York City, and we recognized the important role our stores play in providing an efficient way to offer groceries to customers through pickup and delivery," a Walmart spokesperson said in a statement.

The statement continued, "Jet will continue to offer millions of dry grocery and general merchandise items to customers in major metros like New York City. And, we'll continue to test bold concepts that can offer convenience to customers."

Other companies offering fresh grocery delivery in New York City include FreshDirect, Boxed, MaxDelivery, Peapod and several others.
