NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- Mayor Bill de Blasio said on Twitter late Thursday that the NYPD will be taking immediate steps to protect "key New York City locations" from any attempts by Iran to retaliate against America.
De Blasio said he's spoken with NYPD Commissioner Dermot Shea and counterterrorism chief, John Miller regarding saftey measures the NYPD will be taking, adding "We will have to be vigilant against this threat for a long time to come."

In a statement, the Pentagon confirmed that President Donald Trump had ordered the strike, saying Soleimani "was actively developing plans to attack American diplomats and service members in Iraq and throughout the region."
The statement also accused Soleimani and his Quds Force of killing hundreds of American and coalition service members."This strike was aimed at deterring future Iranian attack plans," the Pentagon said.
Mayor de Blasio also tweeted that he is "worried for our city + nation."
