At least six injured after manholes explode on 32nd Street

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- A couple of manholes exploded on 32nd Street between 5th and Madison Avenues, on Wednesday morning, the FDNY said, injuring at least six people. The injuries are not believed to be serious. 

"MAN 2-ALARM 6 E 32 ST, MANHOLE EXPLOSION , UNITS INVESTIGATING MULTIPLE FLRS AND EXPOSURES FOR CO READINGS," the FDNY tweeted.


Two buildings were evacuated. 

Black smoke was billowing from the street, and Con Ed was on the scene but there was no word on what went wrong.

Bus service was also affected, the MTA tweeted. "SIM1C, SIM3C, SIM4C, SIM33C are delayed because of a manhole explosion at 32 St between 5 Av and Madison Ave," read a tweet.
