LI man accused of gouging grandmother’s eyes out kills himself in jail

YAPHANK, N.Y. (1010 WINS) -- A Suffolk County man accused of gouging his grandmother's eyes out, has killed himself.

A guard at Suffolk County Jail in Yaphank found Michael Grief hanging in his cell on Friday morning, Newsday reports.

Grief allegedly blinded his grandmother in a fight after overdrawing her debit card. He had pleaded not guilty at his arraignment on Wednesday.

Chief Deputy Sheriff Michael Sharkey said jail officials will conduct an investigation.
