Lime bike spokesperson claims fire was 'isolated incident'

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- A Lime bike exploded in flames in Rockaway Beach while someone was riding it and burning the its rider's leg.

 FDNY responded and extinguished the fire after the electric bike's battery apparently overheated and exploded just after 8:45 p.m. Wednesday near 79th Street and Rockaway Beach Boulevard.

Medics treated the victim at the scene.In a statement posted to Twitter, Lime spokesperson Russell Murphy said this appears to have been an “isolated incident.”

"After an initial investigation this appears to be an isolated incident, and we continue to work with local authorities to assist however possible. We are reaching out to the rider and are thankful the injuries were minor." Murphy tweeted.

They added that they believe the fire started after the lock was tampered with, and they do not believe the battery started the fire.
