HARTFORD, CT (1010 WINS) -- Connecticut Gov. Ned Lamont reported nine new COVID-19 deaths and 80 new cases on Wednesday as the state entered Phase II of its reopening.

Phase II, which includes limited indoor dining and the reopening of amusement parks, kicked off Wednesday morning. Restaurants that reopen their indoor dining spaces can only operate at a maximum of 50 percent capacity, the state's guidelines note.

Lamont on Wednesday said Connecticut is "seeing the right trends" as it continues to reopen.

As of Wednesday, 186 people in the state were hospitalized with COVID-19, down by 15 from Tuesday. A total of 45,429 people in the state have now tested positive for COVID-19, and 4,219 have died.

"Out of the 6,430 tests since yesterday's update, only 80 came back positive — 1.2 percent," Lamont wrote on Twitter. "We also have the lowest hospitalizations since mid-March."

"We're one of the exceptions to the trends around the country," he added. "Together, let's keep it that way."

Phase II of Connecticut's reopening includes the following sectors:

  • Amusement parks
  • Hotels
  • Indoor dining
  • Indoor museums, zoos, and aquariums
  • Indoor recreation (e.g. bowling, movie theaters, etc.)
  • Libraries
  • Outdoor events
  • Personal services (e.g. nail salons, tattoo parlors, etc.)
  • Sports and fitness facilities (e.g. gyms, fitness centers, pools, etc.)

On Tuesday, Lamont announced that the state would allow up to 25 people at private indoor gatherings and up to 100 people at private outdoor gatherings starting Wednesday.
