NASHVILLE, Tenn. (1010 WINS) – A Long Island University quarterback who is the brother of a San Francisco 49ers player died after he was stabbed outside a bar in Nashville over the weekend, police say.
Clayton Beathard had played seven games this year for the LIU Sharks. The 22-year-old is the brother of C.J. Beathard, a quarterback for the 49ers.
Beathard was among two people who died at a hospital early Saturday after a brawl broke out at the Dogwood Bar & Grill. The other victim was identified as 21-year-old Paul Trapeni. The two of them, and a third man who is expected to survive, were stabbed.
Police have launched a manhunt to find a person of interest, identified as 23-year-old Michael Mosley. Three other people are wanted for questioning.
Police believe the altercation started after a man made unwanted advances towards a woman and the three victims stepped in to help her. Mosley is seen talking with a woman in surveillance video released by police.
In a statement, the 49ers wrote that they were “shocked and deeply saddened” by the death.
"We extend our heartfelt sympathies to C.J. and the entire Beathard family as they cope with the unthinkable loss of a loved one," the statement says. "C.J. has traveled home to join his family knowing he has the support of our entire organization as they grieve the passing of Clayton."
