NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- A 34-year-old Louisiana man died of a heart attack this past weekend after falling unconscious during a video game tournament at the New Yorker Hotel in midtown, the event's organizers and the man's family have confirmed.
Bryan "Krucial B" McIntosh, who was attending Defend the North 2019, was one of 1,500 gamers at the massive event.
McIntosh fell unconscious after suffering a heart attack in the hotel's public restroom, a family member told Business Insider.
He was then sent to a nearby hospital where he died.
Other gamers at the event complained that while the rooms that housed the tournament were air conditioned, crowded areas became very hot at the height of the event due to overcrowding. Some attendees complained about a lack of water, but was available in every room.
Defend the North's lead organizer, Andy Dumornay, said in a statement, "The staff at DTN and myself are devastated by the loss of Bryand McIntosh aka Krucial B this weekend. It is with a heavy heart that we search for words to accurately describe the gravity of losing one of our own at a time that is supposed to be a celebration of our community. We offer our sincerest condolences to the friends and family of Krucial B. Our thoughts are with you as you deal with this unimaginable loss."
Dumornay continued, "From myself and the team at DTN, I pledge to do anything and everything we can to assist with investigations into Bryand's death. We're deeply shocked and mourn along with the community."
Defend The North waited about 48 hours before commenting about McIntosh's death.
A fellow attendee of the event tweeted, "Saturday night absolutely sucked. We got word that while attending #DTN2019 a long time friend from the Louisiana FGC @Krucial_B suffered what appears to seizure and passed away at a NY hospital. This was out of the blue and most of us aren't quite sure what to make of it."
The attendee continued, "He looked fine while he was playing SonicSol on stream, but an hour or so later it happened."
A memorial tournament has been organized by fellow gamers in Louisiana for Aug. 17.
