NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- A 22-year-old man has been arrested and charged with fatally shooting a high school basketball star, the NYPD said.
Brandon Hendricks, 17, died after he was shot in the neck in the Morris Heights section of the Bronx shortly before midnight on June 28, police said.
Najhim Luke, 22, of Morris Heights, was arrested Monday morning in connection with Hendricks’ death, the NYPD said. He faces charges including murder, manslaughter and criminal possession of a weapon.
The NYPD on Friday released a photo of Luke and said he was wanted for “questioning” in connection with Hendricks’ murder. Luke’s attorney information wasn’t immediately available Monday.
Hendricks was a recent graduate of James Monroe High School, where he was a star basketball player. In an Instagram post after Hendricks’ death, his basketball coach called him a “charismatic, humble young man.”
“I’m pretty certain that the bullets that took Brandon’s life were not meant for him,” the coach wrote. “The senseless violence has to stop.”
