NEW YORK (1010 WINS) – A 40-year-old man was arrested Tuesday for allegedly stabbing a woman with a long knife in a random attack at an Upper West Side subway station last week, police said.
Shamel James, 40, was arrested on Tuesday and charged with assault, menacing and criminal possession of a weapon in connection with the Aug. 6 attack, the NYPD said.
A 40-year-old woman was purchasing a MetroCard at the 1, 2 and 3 station at 72nd Street and Broadway around noon on Aug. 6 when James allegedly exited through a turnstile and stabbed her in the back, police said.
Surveillance video released by police showed him raising the knife as he exited the turnstile.
The woman was taken in stable condition to Mount Sinai West, where she received stitches for a stab wound on her right shoulder, police said.
James' attorney information wasn't immediately available Tuesday.
