Man breaks woman's phone after making anti-Asian, 'COVID-19-related' remarks: NYPD

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- Police are searching for a man who allegedly slapped a woman’s phone out of her hand after making anti-Asian, “COVID-19-related” remarks.

The 33-year-old woman was near Wetherole Street and 66th Avenue in Rego Park, Queens around 11:45 a.m. on Sunday when a man she didn’t know started directing “COVID-19 related” anti-Asian statements toward her, the NYPD said. 

When the woman tried to take a photo of the man, the man slapped her phone out of her hand, police said. The phone shattered when it hit the ground. 

The man ran from the scene after breaking her phone, according to police. He was last seen wearing a white baseball cap, a white hooded sweater, white sweatpants and white sneakers.
