NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- Attorney Michael Avenatti has been temporarily released from a Manhattan jail due to the COVID-19 pandemic, one his lawyers, Dean Steward, told CNN.
Avenatti, who in February was convicted of trying to extort more than $20 million from Nike, was let out of the Metropolitan Correctional Center in Manhattan Friday morning, Steward said.
He will have to return to the jail in 90 days.
"We're really gratified that the judge took the action that he did. He recognized the seriousness of the situation. Unfortunately, there are a lot courts across the country that have not. We're fortunate," Steward told the outlet.
