NEW YORK (1010 WINS) – A unit of the U.S. military apologized this weekend after it posted a tweet that appeared to threaten young people attending a “Storm Area 51” event in Nevada.

The Defense Visual Information Distribution Service (DVIDS) account tweeted the following with a photo of a B-2 stealth bomber: “The last thing #Millennials will see if they attempt the #area51raid today.”

The DVIDS posted an apology on Saturday, writing: “Last night a DVIDSHUB employee posted a Tweet that in NO WAY supports the stance of the Department of Defense. It was inappropriate and we apologize for this mistake.”

While some 2 million people signed up for this weekend’s event, the number who showed up only numbered in the hundreds.

The “raid” on Area 51 never seemed to be taken seriously. On Friday night, dozens of people dressed in alien-themed outfits celebrated near the entrance to the famously mysterious Air Force base. There were only a few arrests reported.
