NEW YORK (1010 WINS) – Dominican Republic authorities say they have discovered the remains of a New York couple who went missing on their Caribbean vacation.

They believe, reports the Daily News, that the couple perished in a car accident on the way to the airport to return home.

Mount Vernon residents Orlando Moore and Portia Ravenelle were scheduled to leave the island March 27 after a four-day vacation.

National Police spokesperson Frank Feliz Duran announced that a man's body was discovered in the water near Sans Souci on March 31, some distance away from where authorities believe there was a rented car underwater, Diario Libre reports.

The woman's body lay where police think the car accident occurred.

A photo on social media reportedly shows them riding horses together on their trip before they disappeared.

The couple checked out of their hotel but never arrived at the airport for their flight home.

A car they own is still parked at Newark Liberty Airport from before they left on the trip.
