NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- MSNBC is reportedly looking at Steve Kornacki, Joy Reid and Shepard Smith to replace Chris Matthews.
Matthew's abruptly announced his retirement on Monday, saying that he was leaving 'Hardball," the show that he had hosted for 20 years.
Kornacki, a national political correspondent for NBC News and MSNBC, took over for Matthews on Monday.
He is in the running to take over the 7 p.m. slot on the network, The New York Post reports.
Another possible replacement is Joy Reid, who hosts the weekend show "AM Joy," is also a contender, the Post reports. Reid often substitutes for other hosts on the network.
The Post reports that Shepard Smith, who left Fox News in October, is being considered for the role.
Matthew's resignation comes after accusations of unwanted overtures to a guest and controversial remarks about Bernie Sanders and others. In a first-person story for GQ published Feb. 28, freelance journalist Laura Bassett said Matthews behaved inappropriately toward her when she was guest on his show.
A few days before the publication of the article, Matthews apologized to Bernie Sanders for comparing the his win in the Nevada caucus to the Nazi takeover of France.
