NEW YORK (1010 WINS) – Top officials at the MTA are touting data that shows the subway has significantly improved for riders over the past year.
The MTA released new numbers this weekend that officials say shows subway performance is getting better.
The latest stats show the system clocking its best on-time performance and fewest delays in four years.
Weekday on-time performance in January was close to 77 percent – 19 points higher than the year before. January also saw 10,000 fewer delays this year than last.
MTA President Patrick Foye told 1010 WINS the Subway Action Plan, which focuses on repairs and maintenance, is working.
"The Subway Action Plan I think is a case of promises made, promises kept," Foye said. "The governor launched a plan, got funding from the state and the city, and we promised we'd invest it smartly and efficiently, and I think we've done that. And the subway performance data supports that."
Officials credit the Subway Action Plan with cleaning up debris and cutting track fires by nearly half in January.
The MTA is also touting the success of its Save Safe Seconds Campaign, which focuses on operational practices.
