State Senator Nicholas Scutari, who has taken the lead on the effort to legalize marijuana, said legislative leaders have agreed on a tax of $42 per ounce of marijuana -- that lands somewhere in between proposals from Gov. Phil Murphy and State Senate President Steve Sweeney.

The lawmakers have also reached a compromise on the state commission to regulate marijuana.

The five-member panel will include three members appointed by the governor and two more likely appointed by the heads of the state senate and assembly.
