NEW YORK (1010 WINS) – The NYPD is reporting a big spike in murders in the five boroughs, with murders up 55 percent in 2019 compared to this time last year.
There have been 48 killings, most in northern Brooklyn, which includes Bed-Stuy and East New York.
Sources say it comes down to the fact that there are more guns on the streets.

Ed Mullins, president of the Sergeants Benevolent Association, says criminals "can see that cops aren't proactive in searching for guns. They think it's okay to carry a gun, and it's okay to fire."
An NYPD spokesman said the department continues to use "data-driven precision to target crime, along with neighborhood policing."
