Alternate side parking regulations suspended in NYC for 1 week

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- Mayor Bill de Blasio said Tuesday that alternate side parking regulations will be suspended for one week starting Wednesday, March 18.

The mayor made the announcement Tuesday afternoon after New Yorkers took to social media questioning why the regulations were still in place amid the coronavirus outbreak.

The mayor also said New Yorkers should be prepeared for a "shelter-in-place" order, over the next 48 hours, although no decision has been made yet.

With 814 known coronavirus cases in New York City and seven deaths, restaurants and bars were ordered closed Monday evening at 8 p.m.

And close they did. Restaurants can offer take-out and deliveries, and bars can deliver drinks but that's about it.

Similar statewide bans are in effect for all of New York state, as well as New Jersey and Connecticut.

The closures are until "further notice," Cuomo said on Monday.

The governors said essential businesses such as supermarkets and gas stations will be able to stay open after 8 p.m.
