NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- Mayor Bill de Blasio has a message for anyone - including the president - who thinks they can get away with shooting someone on 5th Avenue: You will be arrested.

De Blasio made the remarks to reporters Thursday following comments made by one of Trump's lawyers during a court hearing Wednesday about the president's tax returns, 1010 WINS' Sonia Rincon reported.

Attorney William Consovoy said Trump was immune from local and federal prosecution and referenced the hypothetical scenario made famous by then-candidate Trump in 2016 who said he could shoot someone on 5th Avenue and not lose supporters.

Consovoy was asked by the judge if he believed that to be true and that the president couldn't be charged with murder if he killed someone. Consovoy agreed and said "nothing could be done."

De Blasio disagreed. "If you shoot someone that's a crime and no one is above the law. He would be arrested - period."

NYPD Deputy Commissioner Benjamin Tucker agreed. "We would. It's as simple as that."

"Anyone who calls themself a lawyer and says that should not be a lawyer," de Blasio added.
