NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams has requested that the city investigate whether the NYPD is providing adequate lactation rooms for nursing mothers.

Adams has also called for the expedited passage of a City Council legislation that would ensure that lactation rooms are "safe and sanitary" in all locations that required to have them.

Adams' declaration comes after a class-action lawsuit was filed in December by five NYPD employees who claim that the city did not make adequate accommodations for lactating mothers.

In the lawsuit, Simone Teagle, Theresa M. Mahon, Melissa Soto-Germosen, Viviana Ayende and Elizabeth Ortiz said they were at times required to express milk in front of coworkers, in bathrooms and in department vehicles if they wanted to pump.
