NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- A sidewalk shed has been built in the Times Square intersection where a 60-year-old was killed by falling debris on Tuesday.
Erica Tishman, a prominent architect and vice president of Zubatkin Owner Representation, was hit on the head by a piece of a building facade on Tuesday morning. The mother of three was found dead at the scene.
The building, at the corner of 49th Street and Seventh Avenue, is owned by Himmel + Meringoff Properties. The company was fined in April for unsafe conditions at the site which posed "a falling hazard for pedestrians," according to WABC.
WABC reports that the company payed the $1,250 fine but never fixed the facade. Following Tishman's death, the Department of Buildings ordered Himmel + Meringoff to construct a sidewalk shed for the spot, and oversaw its installation.
"This is a tragedy, and the family and friends of the victim are in our thoughts," the DOB said in a statement. "No pedestrian should be at risk from dangerous facade conditions. Department of Buildings engineers are on the scene to perform a full structural stability inspection of the building to ensure all New Yorkers are safe, and conduct a thorough investigation into the cause of this tragic incident."
