In fact, the 81,321 positive cases are more than Italy or any other country has seen.
When asked about the numbers at a Thursday afternoon coronavirus press briefing, President Donald Trump said he attributes the surge in numbers to testing. "It's a tribute to the amount of testing that we're doing. We're doing tremendous testing and I'm sure you're not able to tell what China's testing or not testing. That's a little hard."
New York has the most cases in the country at 37,258.
New Jersey is second at 6,876.
