NEW YORK (1010 WINS) —  We're getting into high mosquito season, and there's a reason to believe it will get a lot worse before it gets better.

Recently the New Jersey Department of Health began an awareness campaign to help fight potential mosquito-borne illnesses.

The “Fight the Bite NJ” campaign is geared towards advising residents to protect against mosquito bites.

We sent 1010 WINS newsman John Montone to the Meadowlands to get the buzz on the bugs.

The Department of Health is telling people to remove standing water, where mosquitoes breed, from places like pool covers and old tires.

New Jersey has had a case of West Nile already this year in Hunterdon county in June.
