NEW YORK (1010 WINS) – A New Jersey man and his friend were saved after falling down a steep cliff by his Apple Watch calling 911 last week.

James Prudenciano, 28, and his friend Paige Paruso were lost in the woods near the cliffs of Hartshorne Woods Park in Middletown at night.

While trying to exit the forest, they fell over a ledge.

Prudenciano said “I was in a situation at that point where I realized I’m really, I’m really facing death right now, like I’m not making it out of here. I looked down and I had nothing else to fall on to but straight rocks and the water.”

Just a couple of days before his hike, Prudenciano had purchased an Apple Watch.

While getting acquainted, he turned on a feature called “Fall Detection” which told emergency contacts and 911 if it finds the user has fallen.

The watch called 911 and also got in contact with his mother and sister.

They were confused but followed the location in the text.

But they time they arrived, Prudenciano and his friend were already being rescued.

He fractured his back in three places and broke his right hand.
