TRENTON (1010 WINS) – Gov. Phil Murphy said Friday that beginning on Father's Day, nursing homes and similar long-term care centers in New Jersey will be allowed to have visitors outdoors.

The following facilities can permit visitors in designated outdoor spaces starting June 21: nursing homes, assisted living residences, dementia care homes, pediatric transitional care homes and comprehensive personal care homes.

At his daily briefing Friday, Murphy said there were 516 new coronavirus cases since Thursday, bringing the state's total to 168,496.

The number of coronavirus deaths in the state rose by 37 to 12,835, he said.

The number of new hospitalizations, patients in hospitals, patients in ICUs and patients on ventilators all continued their decline.

New hospitalizations were down 90 percent since the peak and 40 percent since June 4. The number of patients in hospitals declined by 85 percent since the peak and 38 percent since June 4.

Still, the state remains in the top five states for daily hospitalizations (fifth) and daily deaths from COVID-19 (third).

Personal care services are set to resume on Monday, June 22, after the state entered Stage 2 of its reopening this week.

The services that can begin Monday with restrictions include beauty salons and barbershops, massage parlors, nail salons and tattoo parlors.
