Authorities said Friday that the state’s Division of Child Protection and Permanency alerted the prosecutor’s office that the child was brought to Hackensack University Medical Center on Tuesday lethargic and unable to stand.

"Medical tests indicated that tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), the main psychoactive compound in cannabis, was present in the child’s body," Prosecutor Mark Musella said.

Teaneck police determined the child had been in the custody of Avi Mandel at the time "the substance was consumed."

Later that day, officials arrested Mandel on charges of child endangerment, marijuana possession, and narcotics possession, according to Musella.

Mandel's relationship to the child wasn't immediately clear.
