NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — NJ Transit on the Northeast Corridor, North Jersey Coast line and the Midtown Direct service in and out of Penn Station were suspended for an hour Wednesday morning due to Amtrak overhead wire problems.

Riders complained of being stuck with limited information and no air conditioning.

Joey Pistone described the scene from inside a stalled NJ Transit train.

“From there the lights went out and it got real hot in the train. A small child was getting upset and started having a panic attack and her mother soothed her as best as she could. There was another passenger who passed out, luckily there was a doctor on board. The problem was the train was over crowded way past capacity. So everyone was standing and there was no where for them to move the one who passed out. Finally they said they are getting a Diesel engine to drag us into NY penn station," Pistone said, "They ended up getting the power back on and very slowly limped us back into the station. The thing though was if there was some kind of intercom to alert the conductors of an emergency (people sick) it would have been helpful. The conductors were having fun with the 'situation' blaming Amtrak for that disturbance. But why they didn’t know was they had sick riders.”

NJ Transit bus and private carriers will honor NJ transit tickets and passes.
