NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — New York's new Attorney General, Letitia James, is suing a Queens realty company over alleged tenant harassment at a number of its buildings.
She says that Zara Realty has displayed a pattern of harassing rent stabilized tenants.
"Tenants have been routinely forced to pay excessive fees or fees for separate services that should be free," said James.
Protesters stood outside of a Zara building Friday in support with James' lawsuit."
One protester said, through a translator, "Zara is requesting or charging $200 or more just to get a key for the front door."
Zara owns 38 buildings in and around Jamaica, Queens with over 2,500 apartments.
Zara Realty says it is preparing a statement in response to the lawsuit.
