BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) -- A 41-year-old man has been charged with felony animal cruelty after police say he hanged his children's cat and sent them pictures of its dead body.

Antonio Martin of Buffalo was arraigned Friday on an Erie County indictment charging him with aggravated animal cruelty and two misdemeanor charges of endangering the welfare of a child.

He was released without bail, to return to court on Feb. 19.

Buffalo police say Martin hanged the cat in September. No motive was given.

Martin's attorney said his client pleaded not guilty, but he had no further comment because the case is still in preliminary stages.
