NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- New York State is suing the Trump administration for allowing 3-D printed gun files on the Internet, Attorney General Letitia James announced Thursday, saying the lawsuit is designed to "stop the Trump administration from catering to the gun lobby."
"I'm suing the Trump Admin to challenge its efforts to allow 3D-printed gun files to be released on the internet," James tweeted. "These files allow anyone to simply go online and download files to print and assemble guns, including assault rifles."
She continued, "These "ghost guns" are unregistered, untraceable, often undetectable, and risk the lives of every American. We're filing this lawsuit to stop the Trump Admin from catering to the gun lobby and further facilitating the spread of gun violence in our nation."
New York joins 17 other states in filing such a lawsuit.
A previous multi-state lawsuit led a federal judge last year to strike down the administration's earlier attempt to allow the files to be distributed.
The states had sued to stop an agreement that the government had reached with Austin, Texas-based Defense Distributed, saying felons or terrorists could acquire guidelines on how to print undetectable plastic guns. Now, aruge the states, the federal government is pursuing formal rules that would allow such files to be made public.
