NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- New York City has added six new outdoor dining locations to its “Open Streets: Restaurants” initiative, Mayor Bill de Blasio said Friday.
The following spots have been added to the program, which allows restaurants to set up dining areas on car-free streets on Friday nights and weekends:
- Hoyt Street from Pacific Street to State Street in Brooklyn (Atlantic Avenue BID)
- West 36th Street from 5th Avenue to 6th Avenue in Manhattan (Garment District Alliance)
- East 28th Street from Madison Avenue to Park Avenue in Manhattan (Flatiron 23rd Street Partnership)
- East 29th Street from Madison Avenue to 5th Avenue in Manhattan (Scarpetta Restaurant)
- Frederick Douglass Boulevard from West 112th Street to West 120th Street in Manhattan (Frederick Douglass Boulevard Alliance)
- Ditmars Boulevard from 33rd Street to 36th Street in Queens (Nino’s AQ Restaurant)
Most of the six new locations will start operating this evening, Friday, Aug. 28, according to a press release. Nearly 10,000 restaurants are currently participating in the city’s “Open Restaurants” program, the release said.
“We’re continuing to reimagine our urban landscape and give small businesses more chance than ever to recoup their losses from COVID-19,” de Blasio said in a statement. “Restaurants and diners alike have loved this program from the beginning, and we’re proud to expand it even further.”
