NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- You may be able to say so long to the five-hour flight between New York and Los Angeles.
Canadian aircraft make Bombardier announced on Wednesday that its new Global 7500 business jet has broken the speed record between the two cities, making the trip in less than fours -- 3 hours and 54 minutes to be exact.
And it took off from New Jersey's Teterboro Airport -- not one of the NYC-area's larger airports such as LaGuardia, Newark or JFK -- and it landed at Van Nuys Airport, not at LAX or Burbank, both of which receive flights from the East Coast.
Bombardier said in a statement the aircraft "demonstrated exceptional capabilities by attaining a top speed of M 0.925 and sustaining that speed for more than two hours."
The Global 7500 business jet left Van Nuys Airport at 7:01 AM local time on March 24 and arrived at Teterboro Airport at 1:55 PM local time, completing the coast-to-coast mission in 3 hours and 54 minutes, beating the previously held record established by a competing aircraft manufacturer and making it the fastest business jet ever to complete this route.
"The Global 7500 aircraft is simply the best business jet on the market today," said David Coleal, president of Bombardier Business Aircraft. "The latest speed record demonstrates once again that the Global 7500 jet is the undisputed leader in business aviation."
