NEW YORK (1010 WINS) – The hero German Shepherd who served three tours in Afghanistan has been put down.
Caesar had cancer, the NYPD says.
Caesar joined the department in 2014 after leaving the military. He helped secure the city's subways during his time on the force.
He got a salute from cops before he was euthanized at the Animal Medical Center on East 62nd Street Thursday.
Before going in, his handler, Officer Juan Rodriguez, who is also a veteran, walked Caesar over to the East River for one last look.
