NEW YORK (1010 WINS) – Days after swastikas were found in a schoolyard in Queens, more have been discovered at a playground in a predominantly Russian Jewish neighborhood of Brooklyn.

Swastikas inscribed with black marker were found near a slide at the Brighton Playground on Brightwater Court in Brighton Beach sometime this weekend.

Councilman Chaim Deutsch was told about the hateful messages and alerted police, who are investigating.

“Are swastikas in playgrounds the new normal?” Deutsch tweeted early Monday, along with photos of the swastikas. “Enough is enough. It’s way past time to #TakeAction.”

At least two of the swastikas were still at the playground when 1010 WINS’ Glenn Schuck went there Monday morning.

Michael lives down the block and called the messages “terrible.”

“Ignorant people, a lot of hate,” he said. “I guess most of it is that people are not happy with themselves. Just so much crazy things going on.”

The swastikas were to be erased Monday, but they’re part of a disturbing trend.

On Friday, dozens of swastikas and anti-Semitic messages, including “hail Hitler,” were found at a playground at P.S. 139 in Rego Park.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo directed State Police to assist the NYPD in its investigation of the messages found at the school.

The NYPD says Jewish people are the biggest target amid a rising number of hate crimes in the city in recent months.
