The new technology and transparency will provide New Yorkers better access and info that is often requested or put in searches on the NYPD website, according to Police Commissioner Dermot Shea.

"We're being asked for this information, whether it's hate crimes, or demographics, or what the NYPD is," Shea said

The new portal will soon allow people to file complaints online, review disciplinary proceedings, and includes a departmental app that will allow top officials to move resources quickly in order to respond to demonstrations or emergencies.

Shea also said the technology will allow to improve precision policing.

"We're also gonna use these to fight crime," he added.
