
NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- Passengers headed to New York from the Dominican Republic were delayed on Sunday night after a reported medical emergency that some are calling a case of profiling.
“Some sort of medic type guy came on with a mask and a police man, probably Port Authority, with a mask looked at the kid and decided that it was probably mosquito bites,” one passenger said.
But the director of a Passover program who organized a trip for Orthodox families said JetBlue crews unfairly profiled the boy.
JetBlue said the Port Authority ordered the temporary quarantine out of an abundance of caution.
A measles outbreak that's been heavily concentrated in Brooklyn and Rockland County has fueled a near record year for the disease with cases reaching their highest point since 1994. As of Monday, there were over 700 cases reported in 22 states.
