NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- Well over a dozen Long Island Rail Road trains were either cancelled, delayed or held early Friday evening because of someone on the tracks at Penn Station.
The LIRR first said the person was on the tracks around 3 p.m.
The agency said service was suspended between Jamaica and Penn Station and urged people traveling to Hempstead, Long Beach, Far Rockaway and West Hempstead to take downtown 2/3 subway service to Atlantic Terminal in Brooklyn for eastbound LIRR service to those branches.
Extra passenger trains were being sent to help passengers get between Jamaica and Ronkonkoma.
Although "limited" eastbound service was beginning to be restored, cancellations and delays continued shortly before 4 p.m.
NYC Transit is cross-honoring LIRR tickets at some stations on the 2, 3, 7 and E lines (see below) in Manhattan and Queens.
