NEW YORK (1010 WINS) Pets gave love and the Petco Foundation gave money -- lots of it -- to a handful of New York City animal rescue groups on Valentine's Day.
The surprise unfolded at Animal Care Centers of NYC in Manhattan where representatives from ACC, along with Anjellicle Cats Rescue, Kitty Kind, Meow Parlour Cats, Muddy Paws and Ruff House Rescue were treated to a Valentine's breakfast along with award-winning artist and creator of the heart-warming MUTTS comic strip, Patrick McDonnell.

But full stomachs wasn't all they got.

"They stopped by with a ginormous check", ACC head of communications Katy Hansen told 1010 WINS. "Not only physically large but $250,000. It was an amazing Valentine; an amazing surprize." Hansen says the money has been earmarked for their dog playgroups, which are part of an enrichment program that was put in place in 2015.
