NEW YORK (1010 WINS) – A real-life detective agency is threatening to sue the makers of the wildly popular Wild West videogame “Red Dead Redemption 2.”

Pinkerton Consulting & Investigations reportedly sent a cease and desist letter to Rockstar Games and Take-Two Interactive last month.

Law360 reports that “the current iteration of the famous 19th-century private security company” is threatening to sue the game makers for trademark infringement.

Pinkerton detectives are featured throughout “Red Dead Redemption 2,” but Take-Two says the detective agency is among many historical references “woven into the fabric of the game at every level.”

Take-Two fired back, filing a preemptive lawsuit on Friday. The gaming developer wrote that Pinkerton’s trademark infringement threats “ignore well-established First Amendment principles that protect expressive works, like ‘Red Dead 2.’”

“Red Dead Redemption 2” is a global hit that made a record-setting $725 million in its opening weekend.
