NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- A man police say stole a car with an 81-year-old woman and an 11-year-old boy inside, was arrested in the Bronx Wednesday night.
The incident occurred at East 235th Street and Katonah Avenue, when a 49-year-old woman double parked her white SUV to head inside a busy supermarket.
That's when, officials say, the suspect jumped into the vehicle, backed up and drove away with even turning the car lights on. Once the woman realized her car was gone, she went back in to talk to the manager police said.They looked at surveillance video, and called 911 when they saw the car was stolen.Police were able to track where the vehicle was after discovering that the woman's phone was still in the car.The 32-year-old suspect was pulled over while in traffic on the Cross Bronx Expressway at Jerome Avenue, and arrested, police said.Charges are pending.The woman and child in the car were reported safe, police say.
