PHILIPSBURG, N.J. (1010 WINS) -- Officials are investigating after a 2-year-old child discovered a loaded handgun at a playground in New Jersey, Sunday afternoon, police said.
The gun was found at the Firth playground at Bates and Marshall Streets in Phillipsburg officers said.
The child's father called police after he was able to safely grab the gun, officials said.
"I couldn't imagine it," Phillipsburg police Lt. John Maczko said. "Thankfully, nothing happened."
An investigation is ongoing as authorities determine who left the gun on the playground and if it is legally registered to anyone.
