Pride Island evacuated amid threat of severe weather in NYC

UPDATE: Word is that Pride Island reopened around 6 p.m.

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- Pride Island, the two-day music festival at Pier 97 on Midtown West, was evacuated Saturday evening because of severe weather moving into the city, police said.

"Due to Lighting in the vicinity, Pride Island on Pier 97 and Youth Pride in Central Park have been evacuated. Should the weather clear, Pride Island will re-open, and re-entries will be granted," New York City Pride tweeted.

Grace Jones, Teyana Taylor, Amara La Negra, Pabllo Vittar and Johnny Dynell are scheduled to perform at the WorldPride NYC event Saturday. Abel, Morabito and Madonna are scheduled to perform Sunday.
